This morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced its nominees for its awards ceremony, more commonly known as the Oscars. On Sunday, February 22nd, the winners will be decided. It’s exciting to know that two Canadian releases are hitting shelves the first week of October. If you missed the numerous screenings of the film throughout Montreal, now is the time to check out a Concordia University alumni’s intriguing documentary on DVD (Up the Yangtze). Likewise, a Canadian cult monster-slaying film that made the festival rounds over the summer is coming out. Apart from that, a few notables include Gus Van Sant’s latest and many restored classics on the re-release schedule.
